City History

First settled in 1850, the territory that would become Arden Hills was part of Mounds View Township. Within the next 50 years, lakes in the area became popular recreational destinations for residents, prompting development of summer homes and cabins, which would eventually be replaced with year-round lake homes. In 1906, Joseph Hackey ā€“ a Minnesota state senator ā€“ built Arden Farms, from which the city would eventually get its name.

Much industrial growth came with the advent of World War II, when the federal government built an ammunition manufacturing compound within the current city limits, though at the time the city had not yet incorporated. In 1951, Arden Hills was officially organized into a city, and since has grown into a thriving community of approximately 10,000 residents.
