City History

The territory that would become present day Centerville was first platted in 1854, and was officially organized as a city in 1857. The name Centerville was chosen because of the territoryā€™s ā€œcentralā€ location between Anoka, Stillwater, and St. Paul. Settlers here were primarily French-Canadian, with many German immigrants settling farther west. In the early days, a school, a sawmill, the Church of St. Genevieve of Paris, and other stores were built, and the community thrived. Today, Centerville maintains a small town feel while providing the approximate 4,000 residents with countless modern amenities, making this city a fantastic place to call home.
