Red Wing Public Schools, Independent School District 256, provides educational services and facilities for residents of all ages. The district consists of five schools and two additional learning facilities, including the Colvill Family Center for preschoolers and their families; Sunnyside Elementary for kindergarten-2nd grade students; Burnside Elementary for grades 2-4; Twin Bluff Middle School for grades 5-7, and Red Wing High School for grades 8-12. With 90% of graduating students from district 256 continue on to higher education institutions following high school, and an extensive Continuing Education program, Red Wing Public Schools is a fantastic place to learn.

Transportation

Hiawathaland Transit provides public transportation services to the citizens of Red Wing. Regular bus routes run Monday-Friday from 6:00am-6:00pm, and Dial-a-Ride services are available Saturdays from 7:00am-5:00pm.

The territory that would become Red Wing was procured by the United States during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, but wasnā€™t permanently settled until 1849. A short 8 years later, Red Wing was incorporated into a city, expanding only when the city and neighboring Burnside Township were consolidated in 1971. Since its inception, the city of Red Wing has been a leading manufacturing city in the state of Minnesota, and is known for its Red Wing Shoes and Pottery.
