City History

River Falls was first settled in the winter of 1848-1849. Within the years following, the town grew rather rapidly. First featuring the Pioneer Store, which functioned as a store, hotel, and post office, these years saw the addition of sawmills, blacksmith shops, brickyards, and flourmills. But, the development in the first six years was dwarfed by the industrial boom that occurred between 1872 and 1885. At this time, the advent of the railroad cemented the cityā€™s existence, bringing more residents, businesses, and more to the community.
