City History

First settled in 1856, Zumbrota was inhabited by primarily German and Scandinavian immigrants. These settlers built schools, stores, churches, and mills ā€“ constructing a thriving small town. In 1869 the famous covered bridge was erected, which today stands as the last functional covered bridge remaining in the state. The railroad arrived in 1870, prompting even more growth. As a small commercial center in a rural dominated area, Zumbrota grew slowly over the years, and even with the addition of fantastic modern amenities, maintains a close-knit, small-town feel. Today, Zumbrota is home to approximately 3,000 residents.
