Store those previously hanging pots and pans in pull out cabinets. The look is much cleaner, and you have less to dust and clean too!
When it comes to wanting light and privacy, the glass block windows have been a good solution for a long time. In 2020, people prefer to use frosted glass or skylights to provide the light needed.
