Which Home Decorating Styles Are Fading Out In 2020?

Home decorating styles, like everything in life are hot and then they are not. If you are thinking of renovating or redecorating, you may want to follow the trends. For those homeowners who are decorating purely for themselves and their own tastes, trends don’t matter as much. What are some styles that are on the way out?

Wicker furniture is for the outdoors, not in the house. People prefer to see wicker furniture on a porch or patio, or even in a screen porch. Wicker in the house gives the look of being outdated.

Homes that look more like a warehouse than a home with the industrial look are going out of style. Some industrial touches are still fine, but people want a homier look. The warehouse with concrete, exposed stone, or brick, and the old looking, Edison light bulbs, creates too sterile and cold of an atmosphere.

Put away your nautical collection or take it up to the cabin. The nautical look is seen as very outdated and out of place this year. It is still fine to use blue and white as colors, but people don’t want to see all the nautical accessories with it.

The rustic, barn/farm look has been in for a long time but is now fading out. For those who just love it, try limiting it to only one room or add a piece here and there in your home. Don’t have too much of that old and rustic woodwork in your home.

Speaking of woodwork, a home full of dark wood is also no longer desired. Some dark wood is fine, but pair it with light wood. In the kitchen, try doing cabinets in dark, but island cabinets in a light wood to brighten things up.

An organized look in the kitchen is what people want in 2020. This means the open wall shelves and pots hanging from the ceiling are out. A shelf or two is fine but keep them to a minimum. Store those previously hanging pots and pans in pull out cabinets. The look is much cleaner, and you have less to dust and clean too!

When it comes to wanting light and privacy, the glass block windows have been a good solution for a long time. In 2020, people prefer to use frosted glass or skylights to provide the light needed.

Home decorating styles are every changing and are a personal preference. Trends are just that, trends. It’s your home, decorate you home as you see fit, but if you are planning on selling in the near future, you may want to pay more attention to the trends.
