Spring Chores For Children – Tiny Tasks For Tiny Tikes

Finding spring chores for children is in high demand right now with everyone staying at home. How can you keep the little ones busy while doing something productive at the same time? There are lots of chores even young children can do around the house. Below are just a few.

  1. It’s never too early to teach kids to pick up their toys when they are done playing. For the very young children show them how to put toys back in a basket or on a shelf where they belong. Make sure they pick up their toys out in the yard too. Help them the first few times, and they will get the hang of it.
  2. Show your children how to make their bed in the morning. Depending on their age it may just be putting the pillow in the right place or pulling up the blanket or quilt. Making the bed in the morning is a wonderful habit to get them started on for life.
  3. Young kids can start to learn about matching shapes and colors by giving them a pile of socks to sort and match up when you are doing the laundry.
  4. Caring for the family dog is a great task for the children. Teach them how to give your dog treats, and how many. Giving your pup a spring cleaning can be fun for the kids either in the tub or outside with the hose. Let them help get the shampoo in the fur, and help rinse the dog off. Kids and dogs love water fun, so make it a game!
  5. Get the kids dusting. Buy a cheap duster and let them dust away on the coffee and end tables, or anything they can easily reach that doesn’t have fragile items on it.
  6. Water is always fun for kids. Show them out to wash the floors by getting down on the floor and really scrubbing. Make sure they understand not to use too much water.
  7. Vacuuming is another job many tots love and it will save you some time. Have them clean and vacuum their own room, and them maybe another room or two. The child needs to be old enough to use the vacuum, of course. Tiny ones could follow mom or dad around with their toy vacuum as practice.

All work and no play is no fun! Spring chores for children should also be reward based. Offer the kids extra screen time, their favorite foods, a toy they have been asking for, money, all in exchange for a certain amount of work around the house.
