Austin, Minnesota was established in 1856. It was named for a trapper, Austin Nichols, who built the first cabin there in 1853. Word of fertile land and opportunity spread quickly, and settlers arrived by the wagon-full to put down roots in Austin. However, it wasn’t until the railroad arrived in the 1860s that the town would truly start growing. In 1891, a small family-owned butcher shop opened in Austin. That butcher shop went on to become the Hormel meat plant, famously known for producing SPAM, a ham-like meat product that put Austin on the map. Today Austin is a wonderful place to live, with ample job opportunities and a low cost of living. Austin has been named one of the Top 10 Small Towns Where You’d Actually Want to Live and one of the Best Small Cities in America. RE/MAX Results joined the Austin community in 2012.
