Spring Cleaning Tasks – The Top Ten Most Missed

It’s time to work on your spring cleaning tasks! Did you know there are some things that most people always seem to miss? Maybe it’s a coincidence, or perhaps these are tasks people tend to avoid? Make sure you cover these ten tasks this spring when you are cleaning.

  1. Lighting – lamps, light fixtures, and chandeliers are dust magnets. Not only do they attract dust, but some globes even act as bug catchers. Dust first, then take the fixture or shade down and wash in soapy warm water. Dry off globes but let lampshades air dry.
  2. Window blinds – dust your blinds on both sides, followed by wiping them down with a wet cloth. Did you know when you open or close your dusty blinds, the dust is released into the air?
  3. Air duct vents – the dust particles blowing through the vents often get stuck. Vacuum off the vents, then remove and wash in soapy water. Use a brush to clean any stuck on dirt and grime in the openings. Don’t forget the bathroom fan!
  4. Doors and door frames – you may not see the accumulation of dust on top of the door frame but it is there. While you are working on cleaning that, remember to dust, or wipe down your doors, especially if you have paneled doors that accumulate dust in the ridges.
  5. Kitchen appliances – you might not believe all the stuff you find under the refrigerator, stove, or dishwasher. It is best to move them out so you can really clean the area, but make sure you don’t scratch the flooring. Don’t forget to also clean the interiors of those appliances.
  6. Garbage disposal – clean the blades using ice cubes and rock salt, then run a mixture of baking soda, vinegar and water through. Don’t forget to clean the rubber flaps in the neck as they are bacteria magnets.
  7. Washer and dryer – clean under and around these appliances as you did in the kitchen. The washer should be cleaned inside and make sure to clean the dryer vents, keeping them free of any lint build up which can be a fire hazard.
  8. Shower heads – if possible remove the shower head and let it soak in a cleaning solution to loosen any build up. Use a toothbrush for scrubbing any tougher build up. Remember to wash shower curtains, and wipe down the shower curtain liner to remove any dirt, mold, or mildew build up.
  9. Ceiling fans – dust off the blades, and wash the lamp globe. Remember to switch the direction the fan turns to clockwise for summer,  forcing the air down.
  10. Light switch covers – wipe them down with a gentle disinfectant to remove dirt and finger prints.

Cleaning windows and organizing closets are not the only spring cleaning tasks that matter. Enjoy your sparkling clean home!
