Spring Market Sales: Fall Home Prep Tips To Prepare

Did you know now is the ideal time to start preparing your home to list in the spring market? It might seem a bit early, but by starting now, you will be ready for sure by spring. There may be a lot of work to be done, and you don’t want to be rushed. By starting now, you will have plenty of time.

  1. Find a REALTOR® to work with. A Realtor will be able to give you unbiased information on what you need to do to your home to get the most money when you sell in the spring. You may not see your home in the same light as someone who doesn’t live there. Often, homeowners will spend a lot of time and money on their home with projects that don’t provide much of a return on the investment. Your Realtor will let you know what improvements will be worthwhile doing.
  2. Whether your home needs a lot of work or just a little bit of work, starting now will allow you to get the exterior projects done before winter, and interior projects can be done during the winter. You can shop for the best deals on getting the work done by outside companies, and if you need to order items, there is plenty of time. No one knows when the spring market will start as is it partially weather dependent. If you have your exterior projects finished this fall, you will be ready to roll come spring, be it early or late.
  3. Slowly start decluttering your home. Pack away items you don’t need until summer, such as clothing or home decorations. When painting the interior of your home, it is the ideal time to start removing and packing up photos and artwork, leaving the walls freshly painted and bare.
  4. The dead of winter is the ideal time to work on cleaning projects such as the kitchen cupboards, and appliances. Go through your closets and drawers to weed out all the items you never wear. There is no need to carry them with you to your next home. Clean out the storeroom and storage closets too. Why keep items you never use? Get rid of them now.
  5. If you plan to purchase a new home when you sell, now is also a good time to find a loan officer, check your credit, and find out what you need to do to qualify for the home you would like to purchase. When the spring market rolls around, you can confidently put your home on the market, and start looking for your new dream home.
