Keep Your Home Fit With These 6 Fall Home Maintenance Tips

Keeping your home fit and up to date is a constant process. Summer weather can be hard on a home, just as winter is. As we head into the fall season, put these 6 home maintenance tips on your to do list to keep your home up to par!

1. Check your furnace. With mild temperatures, no one thinks much about turning on the heat, but here in Minnesota, it can be hot one day, and frosty the next. It is no fun to turn on the heat, only to find out your furnace is not working. October is an ideal time to have your furnace inspected by a professional. They still have time in their schedules, and some even offer early season discounts. Remember to change your furnace filters regularly as well.

2. The cold months are when the CO2 detectors are most important. If you have one, make sure it is working correctly, and change the batteries even if it is also plugged into an outlet. If you have a home without a CO2 detector, it is strongly encouraged to go out and get one. They are not expensive and could end up saving your life.

3. Get those windows and screens washed. The clean windows will help brighten up your home now that we are moving into shorter days, and in the spring, you will love popping on the screens that are clean, and ready to go.

4. Wash the outside of your home. Look for birds nests, cobwebs, and remove them. While cleaning, check to make sure the seals are tight around your doors and windows. If you don’t own a pressure washer, you can always rent one.

5. Plan now to have your sprinkler system blown out and winterized before the bitter cold hits. Most companies do winterization in October, so now is the time!

6. Fall is the perfect time to get your yard aerated, and overseeded. Doing these two things now, will help you have a more dense and luscious lawn in the spring.

Take advantage of the gorgeous fall weather and get these projects done.
